Tottenham interested In Basel winger Salah

Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly keen on bringing highly-rated Basel winger Mohamed Salah to Tottenham but will have to fend off competition from European clubs for the 21-year-old, according to the Daily Mail.

Salah impressed onlookers in last season’s Europa League where the Swiss outfit made it to the semi-finals before being knocked out by eventual winners Chelsea.

Tottenham reportedly sent scouts to watch Salah in Basel’s rematch against Chelsea in this season’s Champions League in order to monitor his progress.

The London side will follow up with further scouting trips, but are wary of interest from other European sides said to be interested in the Egyptian star.

A speedy winger capable of causing havoc amongst defences, Salah is the creative force behind Basel’s recent resurgence, often cutting inside and running directly at opposing defenders.

The young Egyptian also has an eye for goal, netting 14 times in 58 appearances for the Swiss champions, including a superb effort against Rafa Benitez’s Chelsea in the Europa League last season.

If he were to join Spurs, Salah would have to compete with the likes of Erik Lamela, Andros Townsend,Aaron Lennon and Gylfi Sigurdsson for a place in the team.

Potentially a huge headache for Andre Villas-Boas to deal with should they snap up the youngster.

This season, Salah has honed his wing-play with three successful take-ons in the Champions League, proving too tricky for defenders with six fouls suffered over the same period.
