Rumour: Tottenham show serious interest in Porto striker
Jackson Martinez: Highly-rated striker
According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has been promised more spending money in the January transfer window.
The Portuguese coach is allegedly looking into the possibility of signing FC Porto’s striker, Jackson Martinez, who is highly-rated around Europe. The Daily Mirror report that Spurs are showing “serious interest” in the Porto striker.
Despite a spending spree of more than £100 million in the summer, the Spurs board are apparently willing to give AVB more money to further strengthen the squad in January.
The 27-year-old Colombian has been offered a new deal at Porto but with a host of top European clubs queuing to sign the forward, he has stalled on talks.
Should he pursue Martinez, it will push Jermain Defoe‘s future at Spurs further into doubt as a number of MLS clubs line up to sign the Englishman.
Defoe has already been pushed onto the sidelines since Roberto Soldado’s arrival in the summer and the 31-year-old wants first team football to fight for a place in Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad next summer.
Martinez has been wayward in Europe this season, hitting just 25% of his shots on target. His only shot on target led to a goal against Atletico Madrid.
