Touch of genius: A video that proves why Diego Maradona is the greatest footballer ever

Diego Maradona about to score the “Greatest Goal of the Century” against England

Argentine legend Diego Maradona is probably the greatest player of all-time in the history of football (Pele fans would want to disagree), who won the World Cup twice with Argentina, once in 1978 and the second time in 1986.

The second triumph in 1986 saw him make the news for two major incidents, both involving his goals against England in the quarterfinals. The first was the highly infamous “Hand of God” incident, when he put the ball in the goal using his hand. The second goal, which is sometimes called the Goal of the Century and is believed to be the greatest individual goal of all-time, saw him dribble past five English players and score.

He also had good club stints in Europe, especially with Napoli, whom he led to their first ever Serie A title and helped establish the most successful period in the club’s history, winning two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and the Italian Supercup.

Known to be a player with great vision, dribbling ability and close control, Maradona was sort of a child prodigy, who at the age of 12, as a ball boy, used to show off his tricks during the half-time break of first division games. He made his professional debut 10 days before his 16th birthday, and he never let go off his skills throughout his career.

Watch some of his best moments as a professional footballer here, including some rare bits of skill that he exhibited:
