Transfer Rumour: Everton open talks with Manchester United for Morgan Schneiderlin

Schneiderlin has found playing time hard to come by at United

After making a good start to the current season, Merseysiders Everton, are currently languishing in the 9th spot in the Premier League, courtesy of poor performances over the last 5 match days, in which they have managed to garner just 2 points.

One issue that has plagued the side is it’s rather underperforming midfield and if reports from the Sun are to be believed, manager Ronald Koeman is looking to bring in former pupil Morgan Schneiderlin to add some much-needed quality and athleticism to the side.

The French international, who made a name for himself at St. Mary’s courtesy of his steely performances in the middle of the park moved to Manchester United only last season. After featuring regularly in his first season, bigger things were expected of the former Southampton man in the current season.

However, the appointment of a new manager in Jose Mourinho has resulted in the Frenchman being sidelined for extended periods. Schneiderlin has featured in just 8 games across all competitions this season, with 5 of his appearances coming as a substitute and he is believed to be pondering over his long-term future at the Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old, who had been a regular under Ronald Koeman during his last season at Southampton, was a key figure as he helped the Saints achieve their best ever Premier League spot, finishing 6th in the League. He has been hailed for his work rate, ability on the ball and the right mix of creativity as well as combativeness that brings the right balance to his side’s midfield and could prove to be a valuable player for Everton, should he make the move.

However, his manager, Jose Mourinho, has not been impressed with whatever he has seen of the player thus far and if reports are to be believed, the player has been told to find himself a new club despite being only in the 2nd year of his 4 year contract. Everton, much like Southampton, might prove to be the right club for the player as they are thin on options in the middle of the park, especially with Gareth Barry ageing.

The only issue that could thwart the attempts of the Toffees would be the price that Manchester United slap on the player, who not long ago was one of the best central midfielders in the League, and has also represented the French national team.

With the likes of West Brom, Leicester City, and AC Milan also believed to be keen on acquiring his services, the battle for the player could go down to the wire in the upcoming transfer window.
