Transfer rumour: Chelsea eye Matuidi
Premier League big spenders Chelsea are said to be targeting Blaise Matuidi of PSG in the January transfer window according to reports in The Daily Express. The 26 year old French international will be available for a cut price in the winter window as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Matuidi who scored a last gasp equaliser for PSG against St Etienne to extend PSG’s unbeaten record in the league has managed to put on some eye catching performances recently and is being closely watched by the other big clubs including Manchester City and AS Roma.
Chelsea are in for a holding midfielder in the winter market with Jose Mourinho fancying either Xabi Alonso or Matuidi after the failed attempt to capture Daniele De Rossi of AS Roma. Matuidi is both younger and is available for cheaper than the man from Madrid and hence Jose will be hopeful of a deal.
PSG however are keen to retain the services of the deep lying midfielder and are believed to be in advanced talks regarding his contract. If the contract talks don’t end well, the Parisians are likely to off load him rather than risk losing him for nothing. With Chelsea pressing for a holding midfielder the future of John Obi Mikel has come under speculation with Galatasaray the most likely suitors for the Nigerian. With Van Ginkel injured and Lampard showing signs of aging Mourinho will press for the deal to go through.
