Transfer rumour: Manchester United set to go all out for Dele Alli
What's the story?
With 19 goals in all competitions this season, Dele Alli has attracted interest from clubs in England as well as foreign clubs, and the youngster’s stock is rising with each passing match.
Manchester United are expected to spend close to £200 million this summer as per reports from Spanish media. The report says that Ed Woodward will do everything in his power to sign the former MK Dons midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur in a blockbuster deal.
In case you didn't know...
Alli signed for the Lilywhites in 2015 for a meagre fee of £5 million from Milton Keynes Dons. Spurs did shrewd business io signing the attacking midfielder for such a low fee and were quick to sign him as Liverpool were also keen on landing the Englishman.
He scored 10 goals and produced nine assists for Tottenham last season which landed him the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
The heart of the matter
The Red Devils are linked with some of the biggest names in Europe like Antoine Griezmann and Toni Kroos. Along with them, Alli is the latest name to be associated with the English club as manager Jose Mourinho looks to sign a few players to push for the Premier League title.
The 20-year-old signed a long-term six-year deal back in September which means that his current deal runs out with the North London club in 2022. It is evident that it will take a humongous fee from Manchester United to bring him to Old Trafford as their chief executive Daniel Levy is a stubborn businessman who often plays hardball in selling his team's players.
What's next?
With Alli set to be a subject of a bid from Manchester United in the range of £60-£70 million, other clubs will follow suit in placing a bid for one of the most in-form players in the Premier League this season. Real Madrid have been previously linked with the 20-year-old and may decide to battle it out with the Red Devils for the signature of the young Englishman.
Author’s Take
One thing that is certain is that despite Tottenham Hotspur performing brilliantly under Mauricio Pochettino, Alli won't be donning the white of Tottenham for long. Although Spurs have looked like possible title contenders, they have faltered in the final hurdle which could prompt Alli to move to a club capable of winning titles.
