Trevor Morgan: The man who made the difference

July 16, 2010. Morgan was appointed as East Bengal’s Coach. The precipitate of this decision turned out to be fortuitous. It didn’t take long to be cognizant of the fact that he was an authoritative guide for the team as he won the very first tournament after being appointed. It was the Federation Cup 2010, where he managed East Bengal’s victory against their rival Mohun Bagan in the finale and in the same season East Bengal also won Kolkata Premier League, Mohammedan Platinum Jubilee Cup and the I-league runners up title.

We can say that a Bengal Club is finally able to cast their faith on a mentor. Morgan greeted the opportunity to redefine the destiny of a football club, which under his patronage has risen from the dust to virtually touch the sky. Since his appointment, his team has managed to win 7 trophies till date – 2010 Kolkata league, Mohammedan Sporting Platinum Jubilee Cup, I-league runners up, 2011 Super cup, IFA Shield, I-league runners up, 2012 Fed Cup and I-league is on.

Though it’s too early to draw a comparison between Morgan and Armando Colaco, still they are slightly correlative. Dempo is the only club who did not choose to change their coach since the year 2000 inspite of their ups and downs. They have won the maximum I-league titles, and this is definitely one of the reasons behind their successful results. The team is completely accustomed with their mentor and therefore they have been performing so well.

On the other hand, East Bengal has also been the second most consistent team in the I-league. Since last two years, they have been performing extremely well but somehow couldn’t manage to win the title. Bengal teams have the tendency of replacing their coach after a disappointing result but East Bengal has taken the risk of breaking this myth and thus it is expected that the club will soon meet glory under the guidance of Morgan.

Lots of expectations are leaning on him. Though he has been proving himself since the very first season but at the end, The Big Trophy i.e the I-league victory will talk on behalf of him. The club and supporters shouldn’t lose their faith in him and have patience for better results as it is said, “Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.”
