Twitter erupts as Tottenham beat Man City on away goals in one of the best matches this season
UEFA Champions League may have witnessed one of the best games in its history as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City went head to head in an all English quarter-final second leg. Spurs came into the the second leg with a marginal 1 goal lead. Though the Citizens won the second leg with a scoreline of 4-3, Tottenham went through 4-4 on aggregate, courtesy of three away goals.
The game from the very first whistle was frenzy end to end stuff. City had a flying start as Raheem Sterling nullified Tottenham's first leg lead as early as 4th minute, but Aymeric Laporte's howler saw Heung-min Son score the equalizer. Son struck once again in the 10th minute with a wonderful curler to beat Ederson and put things in favour of Spurs, but his celebrations were short lived as Bernardo Silva deflected one past Hugo Lloris.
Raheem Sterling rose to the occasion once again for Citizens, as he scored from a majestic Kevin de Bruyne pass. All of this in the span of 21 minutes.
The second half saw City take hold of the game and were rewarded with a brilliant finish from Sergio Aguero as De Bruyne completed a hat-trick of assists. It looked like City were going through, but VAR played an important role in ensuring Tottenham progressed. Spurs crept their way back into the tie after Fernando Llorente's goal was given by VAR, which may be termed as controversial. The VAR came to the Londoners' rescue once again as Aguero was deemed offside for what could have been a winner by Raheem Sterling in injury and stoppage time.
The game had everything, goals galore, cards, free flowing football, injury setbacks and end to end stuff. It was a treat for any football fan.
Tottenham may have missed their talisman Harry Kane, but Heung-min Son ensured they did progress and secure a berth in the semi finals of the UEFA Champions League.
