Twitter explodes as Cristiano Ronaldo breaks records helping Real Madrid keep pressure on Barcelona
Cristiano Ronaldo became the all-time leading scorer in Europe’s top 6 leagues with his header against Valencia, which gave Real Madrid the lead in the game. The Portuguese scored his 367th league goal, overtaking Tottenham Hotspur legend Jimmy Greaves in the process. Arch-rival Lionel Messi is 22 goals behind the 32-year-old.
However, Diego Alves saved a spot-kick from Ronaldo after Luka Modric was deemed to have been brought down in the Valencia box. The away side equalised through Dani Parejo, who scored a sublime free-kick from around 30 yards out in the 82nd minute. However, Los Che’s hearts were broken when Marcelo – who has been in red-hot form, scored the winner in the 86th minute after cutting in from the left before firing a low-shot into the bottom right corner with his right-foot.
The win helps Real Madrid leapfrog Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table, albeit temporarily, with the Catalan giants taking on Espanyol later in the night.]
