Twitter explodes as Manchester United beat Celta Vigo to reach maiden Europa League final
Manchester United recorded a nervy 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final clash, to advance to the final courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate win. Jose Mourinho’s side will play Ajax in the final of the European competition, with the Dutch side recording a 5-4 aggregate win over Olympique Lyon in the other semi-final.
Marouane Fellaini opened the scoring for the Red Devils before Facundo Roncaglia equalised for the visitors with 5 minutes of regulation time to spare, setting up the game for a tense and nervy finale. The Spanish outfit needed just another goal to knock out the Old Trafford outfit but tempers got the better of goalscorer Roncaglia and Eric Bailly as the duo were sent off after a 22-man brawl in the dying moments of regulation time.
Celta Vigo almost scored the winner with the last kick of the game as former Manchester City striker John Guidetti fluffed his lines from 10 yards out as his tame effort was cleared by Matteo Darmian. The win provides Mourinho's side the possibility of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League, if they are able to beat Ajax in the final.
Twitter, as you would expect, went wild after Manchester United's win. Here are the best tweets:
