Twitter explodes as Tottenham Hotspur beat Real Madrid at Wembley
Defending champions Real Madrid travelled to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in their 4th game of the UEFA Champions League group stages, and boy were they stunned!
Bereft of important players like Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas and Raphael Varane, Los Blancos eventually succumbed to a stunning 3-1 defeat at the hands of Mauricio Pochettino's men. To make matters worse, they were dismantled at Wembley - A stadium expected to be Tottenham's downfall this season.
With the victory against Madrid, Tottenham have now firmly established themselves as leaders in Group H. With just 2 fixtures remaining in the group stages, it is highly likely that the Spurs will end this phase of the competition at the top.
Cristiano Ronaldo found the back of the net, but the sole piece of success was rendered useless by Dele Alli's brace, and Christian Eriksen's goal which was essentially the final nail in the coffin. Naturally, Twitter's reaction to this shocking result was nothing short of explosive.
Dele Alli marked his return to the Champions League, after missing all 3 of Spurs' group ties so far, with an extremely crucial brace to silence the mighty Madrid side and their ebullient fans, to quickly become the toast of the town.
Fans of the Spurs and football, in general, showered the young Englishman with praises and gratitude.
You know Tottenham were unstoppable when Arsenal fans appreciate them, eh?
Even Danny Welbeck couldn't control himself...
How can one discuss Real Madrid and not bring up Cristiano Ronaldo? The Portuguese superstar sure did bag yet another Champions League goal, but in the end, it proved to be little more than consolatory.
Twitter didn't spare him either.
