Manchester United suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe were enough to give the visitors the advantage heading into the second-leg.

Tipped to be a very cagey encounter, both teams struggled to create chances in the early exchanges. The best chance of the first half fell to Mbappe, but the young striker failed to hit the target when placed one-on-one with David de Gea.

While the first half couldn’t produce any goals from both teams, the real action came in the second half, with PSG scoring two quick-fire goals. First, Angel di Maria slid a nice pass to Kimpembe who eased the ball past De Gea to hand the French giants a 53rd minute lead.

Seven minutes later, Di Maria was once again in the thick of affairs, this time setting up Mbappe for PSG’s second goal. The former Monaco star took advantage of Man United’s poor defensive set-up to make the score line 2-0.

It went from bad to worse for Man United as Paul Pogba saw red in the dying embers of the game.

The 2-0 defeat is the first loss Man United have suffered since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager. It also brings an end to the Red Devils’ 11-game unbeaten run under the Norwegian tactician.

PSG, on the other hand, will look to cement their place in the quarterfinals of the Champions League when they play Man United in the second-leg at the Parc des Princes. The French giants were eliminated at this stage last season after losing both legs to eventual winners Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel and his men are currently buzzing after the confidence-building win at Old Trafford. In the meantime, football fans are in full flow on social media, with trolls being directed the way of Man United and their fans.

As usual, the funny memes have also not been left out. Here's a look at how Twitter reacted to PSG’s 2-0 win over Man United.
