The race for the Serie A Golden Boot further intensified as Krzysztof Piatek scored his 19th league goal of the season against Chievo Verona, making him the joint top goalscorer in the league alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Fabio Quagliarella.

AC Milan tightened their grip on the third place in the Serie A table as they beat Chievo Verona 2-1 in their league game at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. Lucas Biglia gave Milan the lead in the 31st minute of the game, which was canceled out by Perparim Hetemaj in the 41st minute of the game.

Krzysztof Piatek secured all three points for the Milan by finding the back of the net in the 57th minute.

AC Milan are currently third on the Serie A table, 24 points behind the leaders, Juventus. Their primary objective this season would be qualifying for the Champions League next season and will play Inter Milan and Sampordia in the league next.

They signed Piatek from Genoa FC to replace Gonzalo Higuain in the January transfer window and the Polish international is in a brilliant form since his move. He scored six goals in seven league games for Milan thus far.

Speaking after the game, AC Milan's captain, Alessio Romagnoli said that it was an important victory for the team.

“It’s a fundamental victory. We have to do better, we didn’t play very well today, but there are games when you just need the win at all costs. The important thing is to improve, we have to give everything in the next three months."

He also gives his verdict on Krzysztof Piatek

“Piatek? He is strong, as he has shown. Cutrone also gives his soul when he plays, we congratulate them both and we hope to continue like this."

On the other hand, Chievo Verona are currently at the bottom of the Serie A table, 12 points from safety. They will play Atalanta and Cagliari in the league next but their chances of survival look very slim.

Fans have since taken to Twitter to praise the Polish striker:
