Twitter reacts as Borthwick-Jackson returns to Manchester United

Look who
Look who's back

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has returned to Manchester United after Leeds United prematurely terminated his loan deal. He joined Leeds on a season-long deal in the summer, but only made 1 appearance for the club.

A statement on Leeds website said 'We would like to thank Cameron for his efforts during his time at the club.'

The full-back made just one league appearance for the club against Preston on August 12, and was on the bench against QPR, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Fulham.

His latest appearance for the club was in the 2-1 defeat against FA Cup against Newport County. His other appearances for the club were against Leicester, Burnley, Newport and Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

What is his story?

Borthwick-Jackson joined Manchester United academy when he was six. He made his debut for the reserve side at the age of 16 in a 4-1 win against Bolton on 16th September 2013. He then went on to make 22 appearances for the reserve side that season.

He rose to prominence under Louis van Gaal. The Englishman made his debut on 7th November 2015 against West Bromwich Albion, as a 76th-minute substitute for Marcus Rojo. Borthwick-Jackson went on to earn nine more senior caps that season making it a total of 10 appearances.

He beat James Weir and Donald Love to win U-21 Player of the Year at the club's annual award ceremony on 2nd May 2016, and signed a new four-year contract keeping him at the club to 2020 with an option to extend for another year.

Loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers

After Louis van Gaal was sacked, Jose Mourinho didn't fancy the young full-back, who was subsequently loaned to Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan.

On 10th September 2016, Borthwick-Jackson made his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against Burton, and then went on to make five more appearances for the club.

But, when Paul Lambert took charge of the club from Walter Zenga, things started to change. He was cast out of the team, and the loan deal was soon terminated, after which Borthwick-Jackson spent the second half of the season with Manchester United's U-23 squad.

How did Leeds fans react

On 7th August 2017, the 20-year-old joined Leeds United - a Championship side - on a season-long loan deal. Borthwick-Jackson made his club debut in the Carabao Cup, and then made his league debut 5 days later against Preston North End.

On 16th January 2018, however, his loan-spell was terminated, and as a result, the Englishman returned to Manchester United.

Leeds' fans were understandably excited about the departure of the youngster, and took to Twitter to express their opinion. Clearly, they seem to be hoping that Borthwick-Jackson's exit could free up room some January signing.
