Cristiano Ronaldo is once again in the news following Juventus’ 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg tie. The Italian champions were in the game for larger parts but succumbed to the hosts after conceding two late goals.

First, Jose Gimenez took advantage of a defensive lapse to prod home the opener, before Diego Godin sealed the result after his shot deflected off Ronaldo to make it 2-0.

Juventus now have a tall order to overturn the result, but it was their Portuguese superstar who rose to the top of the Twitter trends in the aftermath of the game. The 34-year-old was constantly taunted by the Atletico Madrid fans, who jeered and booed him for 90 minutes.

Some of the fans in the Wanda Metropolitano also chanted “pay your taxes” each time Ronaldo was on the ball and he responded in equal measure after the full-time whistle. The Portuguese cheekily gestured to the home fans, as if to say “I’ve won the Champions League five times and you have won none!”

He continued with the gesture into the press room, in a move that obviously riled a lot of Rojiblancos fans. Since the incident, there have been a lot of talk surrounding Ronaldo’s gesture and whether he was justified to respond in such a manner.

Much of the talk, though, has been happening on Twitter, where many football fans have wasted little time in adding their voices to the trending topic. The match may be over, but Ronaldo’s gesture is still trending on various social media platforms.

While some fans defended the 34-year-old, there were others that also felt his reaction was petulant and uncalled for.

So, without much ado, let’s take a look at some of the best tweets following Ronaldo’s “I’ve won five Champions Leagues” gesture to Atleti fans:
