Twitter reacts as Wayne Rooney salvages a point for Everton in 1-1 draw with Liverpool
Liverpool vs Everton - one of two exciting derbies in the Premier League this Sunday which - ended in a 1-1 draw after former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney nullified Mohamed Salah's first half scorcher.
Jurgen Klopp's Reds enjoyed the majority of the possession on the night, but were left frustrated by Everton's deep defending. However, a moment of brilliance from former Chelsea player Salah gave the home side the lead before the half-time.
Everything was going smooth for them until defender Dejan Lovren awarded the opponents a penalty in the 77th minute of the game which was comfortably converted by Rooney. Even though Klopp tried to get that winning goal by bringing on Philippe Coutinho, it did not work and the game ended 1-1.
As always, Twitter was excited with the developments of the match.
Liverpool's goalscorer Mo Salah, who leads the league's goalscoring table, was an obvious hot topic on Twitter.
We have seen this before, but still never gets old...
The Egyptian really likes them derbies!
Liverpool had the chance to double their lead when they were four on two against Everton. However, Sadio Mane decided to have a go at goal rather than pass to his teammates who were in a better position to score on the counter-attack.
However, that Mane blunder would not have hurt Liverpool if Lovren had avoided his. The Croatian, who is known for his propensity to make errors, pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the ground to award the Toffees a penalty.
While the foul looked to be quite soft, no defender should put his hands on an opponent player like that. And Rooney converted the penalty to equalise for his side.
Rooney also attracted attention on Twitter after he scored from the spot.
The legendary striker had also scored against Manchester City this season...
Pickford was Everton's best "outfield player" according to Twitterati.
