UEFA Champions League: Arsenal record historic away victory against Dortmund; Chelsea, Barcelona post easy wins

Aaron Ramsey’s solitary goal helps Arsenal record historic victory at Dortmund

Arsenal made history with a win on German soil while Lionel Messi found his goal-scoring touch again. But it was another Spanish team that secured qualification with a comprehensive win.

Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal

Aaron Ramsey’s solitary goal was enough for Arsenal to record a historic away victory against Borussia Dortmund. The Welsh headed the ball home from a Mesut Ozil cross in the 62nd minute. Arsenal became the first English team to win at Dortmund’s fortress, Westfalenstadion stadium with their 14th win in 15 unbeaten away games. Arsenal started the game on a conservative note with most of the attacks coming from the home side. The win ensured a sweet revenge of their home defeat to Dortmund a fortnight ago, but their way to round of 16 is still a far cry.

Barcelona 3-1 AC Milan

Two goals from Lionel Messi and one from Sergio Busquets ensured a convincing home victory for Barcelona over AC Milan. Messi scored his first goal in four games from the penalty spot after Neymar was fouled inside the Milan box. The Spanish giants had 63% possession, thus proving their hold on the much. The victory extends Barcelona’s lead by 5 points at the top of the group table.

Chelsea 3-0 FC Schalke 04

Samuel Eto’o’s brace and Demba Ba’s late winner ensured Chelsea’s position at the top of the group table with 9 points. Samuel Eto’o replaced injured Fernando Torres in the starting line up. There were 5 other changes in the starting line up, which included the exclusion of Eden Hazard. Mourinho later said, he was dropped because he “missed a crucial training session”.

The other match results are as follows: FC Basel 1-1 Steaua Bucharest, Napoli 3-2 Olympique Marseille, Zenit St. Petersburg 1-1 FC Porto, Atletico Madrid 4-0 FK Austria Vienna, Ajax 1-0 Celtic.
