UEFA Champions League: Famous celebrities react as Liverpool produces incredible comeback against Barcelona
Liverpool might have pulled off one of the most incredible comebacks of all-time as they embraced the spirit of Istanbul to beat Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
The Blaugrana came into the game with a healthy 3-0 cushion and were the favourites to go through to the final of the competition, but 'that night in Rome' last year would have been on the minds of the players, where they bottled a healthy 3 goal lead against AS Roma in the quarter-finals.
Liverpool was without their talisman, Mo Salah, who was ruled out of the game after suffering a head injury against Newcastle United. The Reds started the game in the best possible way and opened the scoring inside the first 6 minutes through Divok Origi.
Liverpool's constant pressing caused Barca all sorts of problems, and they found it difficult to impose themselves on the game. Barcelona struggled to cope with the physicality of their opposition, who were first to almost every loose ball.
Barcelona did force Alisson into a couple of saves, but couldn't get the all-important away goal. The game-changing moment was the introduction of Georginio Wijnaldum in the second half.
The Dutchman scored 2 goals inside two minutes to bring Liverpool level on aggregate with La Blaugrana. Liverpool grabbed the lead with a clever corner, which was calmly finished by Divok Origi, and it turned out to be the winner.
The Blaugrana were second best throughout the game at Anfield and were dominated by Liverpool in every aspect of the game. The Reds, on the other hand, were brilliant throughout the 90 minutes and fully deserved their victory.
