UEFA Fans' 2013 Team of the Year does not feature Lionel Messi
The official UEFA website ran a poll to see which players would make it to the 2013 Team of the Year and the results are finally out.
After a total of 6,310,237 votes, the final eleven reveals one very notable omission – Lionel Messi!
Here is the complete team:
Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer
Defenders: Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Philipp Lahm, David Alaba
Midfielders/Wingers: Gareth Bale, Marco Reus, Mesut Ozil, Franck Ribery, Cristiano Ronaldo
Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic
49% of all voters were in the 18-24 age group. A major chunk of the users were from Europe (66%) with Asia coming in second (15%). Real Madrid fans accounted for 15% of the votes. Surprisingly, Barcelona fans accounted for 12% of the votes and even then no Barcelona players made it into the Team of the Year.
The player who received the most votes was Philipp Lahm with 78% of the votes.
