Under-19 I-League: United SC qualifies for final phase by beating Mohammedan Sporting 6-1

It was indeed the perfect start into 2015 for United SC's Under-19 boys as they qualified for the final phase of the Under-19 I-League 2014/15 beating Mohammedan Sporting Club 6-1 in their penultimate group league encounter at their home ground at Kalyani Stadium yesterday thus qualifying as the first team of the group to advance for the final phase remaining unbeaten so far.

The visitors initially surprised everyone by scoring in the 5th minute of the match through Mohammed Asif whose world class 25 yards pile rider found the back of the net. Being astounded with this early occurrence, United SC fought back immediately and restored parity in the 11th minute through their striker Sandip Bhattacharya who headed home Sheikh Azharuddin's cross from the left wing.

From thereon it was a rather flat first 45 minutes. Meanwhile, United SC's roaming striker Abdul Sajjat muffed off an easy chance in the 40th minute with the opposing custodian at his mercy.

However, United SC looked a changed side after the lemon break. Skipper Babun Das scored in the 48th minute and thereafter the floodgates opened. It was only United SC making attacks one after the other - left, right and centre. Sandip Bhattacharya scored the third and fifth goal for United SC in the 60th and 78th minute to get his hattrick, while Abdul Sajjat and substitute Subhankar Dey scored in the 72nd and 90th minutes respectively.

United SC's last group league match is scheduled for January 8, 2015 against East Bengal Club at their home ground.
