Uruguay to appeal against the 4 month ban handed to Luis Suarez

Uruguay have decided to appeal against the 9 match ban imposed on Luis Suarez

Uruguay have confirmed that they will appeal against the nine match and 4 month ban imposed on Luis Suarez for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during the group match between Uruguay and Italy.

FIFA have imposed a fine of £67,000 and banned him from playing any competitive match or entering any stadium for 4 months.

The Uruguay FA felt that the ban handed was ‘excessive’ in nature and that it was an exaggerated decision taken by FIFA.

“We are preparing our appeal now, we have three days to do it. It is an excessive decision and there was not enough evidence and I have seen more aggressive incidents recently,” said  the Uruguay federation president, Wilmar Valdez.

“It is a severe punishment. I don’t know exactly which arguments they used, but it is a tough punishment for Suárez. Its feels like Uruguay has been thrown out of the World Cup. We all know what Suárez means to Uruguay and to football around the world - not having Suárez would be a loss to any team,” added Valdez.

Luis Suarez will miss the round of 16 match against Colombia on June 29 and will also miss 13 games for Liverpool - 9 in the Premier League, 3 in the Champions League and 1 in the Capital One Cup, though it is not yet confirmed what action the English club will take regarding the incident and the ban. Spanish clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in bidding for the Uruguayan, but Liverpool have no plans of selling him.
