Uruguay vs Panama Head-to-Head stats and numbers you need to know before Match 6 of the 2024 Copa America

Uruguay kick off their 2024 Copa America campaign on Sunday when they take on Panama at the Hard Rock Stadium. Marcelo Bielsa’s men head into the weekend on a four-game winning streak against Los Canaleros and will look to extend this dominant run.

With 15 Copa America titles under their belt, Uruguay are the joint-most decorated side in the tournament’s history, alongside reigning world champions Argentina.

However, Bielsa’s men have struggled to impose themselves in recent years as they have failed to progress past the quarter-finals in each of the four editions since their title triumph in 2011.

Record marksman Luis Suárez will lead Uruguay’s talented troupe composed of the likes of Darwin Núñez, Ronald Araújo and Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde as they look to go all the way in the United States.

Making just their second-ever outing in the Copa America, Panama will be looking to surpass their 2016 run, when they suffered a group-stage exit.

Back then, Thomas Christiansen's men kicked off the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Bolivia before suffering consecutive defeats against Argentina and Chile to finish third in Group D.

However, Panama have since evolved as a unit, getting to the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in 2018 and reaching the CONCACAF Gold Cup final in 2023.

Uruguay vs Panama Head-to-Head stats

This will be the fifth-ever meeting between Uruguay and Panama, with La Celeste winning each of their previous four encounters.

Their most recent meeting came in a friendly matchup back in June 2022, when Uruguay cruised to a 5-0 victory courtesy of goals from Nicolas de la Cruz, Maximiliano Gomez, Diego Rossi and a brace from Edinson Cavani.

There have been a combined 16 goals scored in the previous four meetings between Uruguay and Panama, with Bielsa’s men scoring 15 and conceding just once since their first encounter in April 1952.
