Uruguay’s Luis Suarez is in good shape for the World Cup, says Diego Forlan

<Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is in good shape for the World Cup, says teammate Diego Forlan, following surgery on his knee.

Suarez, 27, enjoyed his best Liverpool season heading into the summer’s tournament, by scoring 31 goals in 33 Premier League games and helping push Manchester City all the way in the title race. The Reds eventually finished second in the title race to City but Suarez’s form was good news for Uruguay.

However, he was shot down with a meniscus knee injury shortly after joining up with his international teammates and required surgery. It is thought that the injury and surgery will not affect his performance when the World Cup arrives as he should be fit and back playing by then, but there are still some slight concerns as he will not have properly trained prior to kick-off.

The news had given England fans cause for optimism as Suarez is due to line up against the Three Lions after Uruguay face Costa Rica on June 14th. However, the Liverpool striker is expected to be fit but after recovering from injury, though could be quite rusty.

That isn’t a problem, though, says Forlan, who claims Suarez is in ‘good shape’.

“We haven’t seen him for a week so it was nice to have him around again,” said Forlan. “He told us he is in good shape and recovering well and his treatment has been good.

“Everybody wants him to be ready. I want the whole team to be healthy and ready for the World Cup so I want Luis to be back and ready for that.

“That would be much better for all of us. Luis came to the training ground in the morning to see us.”

Only Steven Gerrard (13) assisted more goals than Luis Suarez (12) in the Premier League last season.
