Usain Bolt wants Manchester United trial and five-year contract if he's good enough
Just being the world’s fastest man is not enough for Usain Bolt. In an interview with MUTV, the 100m and 200m world record holder wants a crack at playing football with Premier League giants Manchester United.
That’s not all. The Jamaican sprinter, now 29 years old, wants a five-year contract as well. Although he has joked about playing for United in the past, he is serious about getting a chance to play with the Red Devils.
Bolt revealed how a meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo had also emboldened him to consider playing for United one day. He also spoke of the first time he walked out on the Old Trafford pitch and how it was a surreal experience. He had recently won individual Olympic gold medals in the 100m and 200m and walked out to a rapturous applause at half-time.
“From then on I was mind bent on playing for Manchester United,” Bolt explained. He also spoke about meeting up with Sir Alex Ferguson and talking to him about putting on a United shirt one day and playing for him.
“I was like, ‘Yo, I need to play for Manchester United.’ I was telling Fergie to listen. He was like, ‘Come, you should come train with us.’ Then he left and I was like, ‘I’m never going to get into this team.’”
I should get a trial at Manchester United: Bolt
When questioned about whether his intentions to actually play for United was just a joke or whether he was actually serious about it, Bolt said he thought he should have a trial.
“I would love to. I think I should do a trial,” Bolt said. “In my mind I think I should do a trial and see if they would say, ‘Alright, c’mon in,’ or if they would say, ‘No, you are not any good.’
Bolt also explained why he would be good enough for Manchester Untied since he was not ordinary athlete and could get a contract for five years even though he was almost 30.
“I think I would be pretty good because I am fit, I am quick, I can control the ball and I understand all of the play.
“So, if you think, if I do a trial then they would say, ‘You know what, here is a contract for five years.’
“‘You are 30 years old, here’s a five-year contract. Let’s just do it.”
