Video: Australia celebrate World Cup qualification

Hundreds of fans greeted members of Australia’s national football team at downtown Sydney‘s Circular Quay on Wednesday, after the Holger Osieck’s side qualified for next year’s World Cup in Brazil with a 1-0 win over Iraq.

Josh Kennedy, goalscorer:
“I think it’s still sinking in. you know I didn’t get much sleep last night after the game. Everything is still going through my head and I’m sure in the next few days it will sink in, and you know see family and friends and hopefully we can enjoy it.”

Holger Osieck, Socceroos coach:
“I’m here to work for Australian football. We made it happen, the guys were great, the public was great, the overall support. So, I’m very happy for everybody here.”
(Question: How long do you think the celebrations will last in the team?)
“Well, I don’t know. But the celebrations for me already over because we prepare for a tournament in Korea for next month.”

“It was an awesome game, you know, to go and watch. We were quite nervous because we thought Australia was going to lose or draw. But you know they came away with the result which was a good result. So, you know, it was good getting the win and you know to see 80-thousand Australians jumping up and down, you know, it was something that like we all enjoyed and I’ll never forget it. So it was amazing, amazing.”

“Pretty incredible. Biggest night since Uruguay in (2005) 05. So, yeah it was amazing. Jumping around, going crazy, my voice is still hoarse today.”
