Video: Australian manager congratulates squad following World Cup qualification
Reaction after a 1-0 win over Iraq gives Australia a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Holger Osieck, Australia manager: “Well first of all I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the boys who did really well in the final stage of the campaign. I think It was a great effort, we really grew together as a team, we presented ourselves as a unit and the reward today was that we could qualify for the World Cup.”
“I don’t think right now, it’s not the time for any analysis for any game critics or so and I don’t feel like doing anything. Just what I said – thanks to all our guys I’m happy for them and I know it’s going to be a tough year ahead of us in order to get ready, but tonight I think we have the right and the privelege to enjoy our qualification.”
Lucas Neill, Australia Captain:
“Yeah very proud, proud as a captain, proud as an Australian. As a team, as a nation we get to build on the momentum we’ve done now in two campaigns to experience what could be arguably one of the best ever World Cups. Who could say that it gets any better as a dream to be able to go to Brazil of all places to challenge the world on the greatest stage.”
