Video: Cesc Fabregas misses penalty against Ukraine after laser is pointed at his face

Cesc Fabregas had a chance to make it 2-0 to Spain against Ukraine but missed

At the moment, nothing seems to be going right for Spain’s Cesc Fabregas. He marked his 100th appearance for Spain by getting his spot kick saved by Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov. The miss also marked the fourth miss out of four attempts from the spot for La Roja, excluding shootouts.

Fabregas and his teammates played their Euro 2016 qualifier against Ukraine, a game which saw Spain score the only goal. It was enough for Vicente del Bosque’s men to secure a 1-0 victory as they finished top of their group.

Villarreal right-back Mario Gaspar scored on his international debut, but the team in Red had the opportunity to double their lead when the Chelsea midfielder stepped up to take the penalty kick. The 28-year-old had a laser pointed in his face as he stepped up to the spot. Unfortunately, his effort was saved by Andriy Pyatov.

It was a good save from the Ukraine goalkeeper, although his task was helped by a fan who bullied Fabregas mercilessly before he took the set-piece.

Back in the quarter-final of Euro 2008 against Italy, the former Arsenal captain stepped up to convert the winning penalty in a knockout game and also against Portugal in the semi-final of Euro 2012. On both occasions, La Roja went on to win the competition.
