The Holbeach United goalkeeper scored an unbelievable goal for his team

In modern day football, it's a rare sight to see goalkeepers running up to the opposition’s half in the dying minutes of the game and scoring a crucial goal for their team. Of course, a lot of goalkeepers have done it in the past including Columbia’s Rene Higuita, Rogerio Ceni, Jose Luis Chilavert – who are all renowned for their goalscoring exploits.

Rick Drury from Holbeach United is another goalkeeper to have scored an outrageous goal for his team in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup. Holbeach were one nil down to Worcester City and they were awarded a free-kick deep into injury time.

Holbeach were on the verge of an exit from the FA Cup but Drury, took a gamble to help his team out at the opposite end and it paid off. The goalkeeper saw the ball floating towards him and unexpectedly decided to attempt an incredible overhead kick.

Not many goalkeepers could have even thought of pulling off such acrobatic skill. Luckily for Drury, his attempt was successful when he connected perfectly and his effort rifled into the bottom corner to level the game. It was a much-needed goal for Holbeach United and it came from the unlikeliest of sources.

The players were buzzing after the goal and the keeper was mobbed by his teammates and supporters who sprinted onto the field to join in with the goal celebrations. Drury's wonder goal forced a replay for Holbeach, who are three flights below Worcester in the football pyramid.
