Video: Iran dominate Lebanon 4-0 in World Cup qualifier

Iran defeat Lebanon 4-0 in Asia Group A World Cup qualifying match in Tehran on Tuesday.

Iran needed to win big against Group A minnows Lebanon in Tehran on Tuesday to ensure its World Cup qualification campaign stayed on track.

Carlos Queiroz’s Iranian side had a chance to grab second in the group with just one match remaining, but their hesitant attack didn’t awaken until the 39th minute when (9) Mohammad Reza Khalatbari scored after a fantastic run to make it 1-0.

Iran doubled their lead from a quick corner in stoppage time when (2) Khosro Heidari crossed into the box – skipper (6) Javad Nekonam met the cross and headed home.

Less than a minute after the restart, Iran picked up their third goal of the match when (16) Reza Ghoochannejhad made Khalatbari’s run look average as he weaved through the defense and fired home.

Nekonam then capped the scoring when he picked up his second of the match in the 86th minute with a strike from the edge of the penalty area.

It ended 4-0 to Iran and they’ve now jumped to second in Group B.
