Video: Joachim Loew looks ahead to Faroe Islands qualification clash

Qualification for Brazil 2014 could be wrapped up by Germany against the Faroe Islands in Torshavn on Tuesday.

Joachim Loew, Germany coach, said: “We will enter the game in a serious and concentrated manner, obviously. We are aware of the fact that the Faroes have been playing a very strong game here at home. I recall Italy barely hanging on to a 1-0 win here, the Swedes running into problems and narrowly winning 2-1, and the Faroes defending a lead against the Republic of Ireland for most of that match.”

“It’s important for our team to embrace the circumstances with regard to the pitch, the special climate and the wind. We have to take this opponent seriously. The only thing I’m concerned with here is that we’ll gain three points, and that is what we’ll do.”

“We will at least have one change in our starting line-up because Marco Reus came down with the stomach flu, and didn’t feel well this morning. There’s a chance I will substitute other positions as well. I will re-consider which line-up will play, but definitely, I can say that we have to replace Marco Reus.”

“Sidney Sam is a great one-on-one player, but he plays right wing, mostly. However, one-on-one players are important for tomorrow’s game as I expect Faroe to play tight zone defence. But as I said, he is used to playing on the right-wing, which means that either Julian Draxler or Andre Schuerrle will play. We will monitor our training and see who plays best on synthetic turf. After this, a decision will be made.”
