We are running out of superlatives to describe Lionel Messi. In the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao, the Argentinian was up to his usual antics again as he scored a sensational goal to open the scoring on the night.
In the 20th minute when the score was 0-0, Messi took the bull by its horns when he received the ball and went on a spectacular run.
Surrounded by 3 Athletic Bilbao players near the outside line, the 27-year-old weaved his magic and moved past them as if they weren’t there. He carried the ball inside the penalty area where he wrong-footed another defender before placing the ball in the back of the net beating the goalkeeper on his near post.
Barcelona went on to win the match 3-1 and complete part 2 of their quest for the treble, having already clinched the Liga earlier in the season. Neymar scored the second goal and Messi got his brace with a second half goal.
