Video: Martinez frustrated with transfer speculation

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on Thursday (29th August) called for the Summer transfer window to be shut before the start of the English Premier League season.

Roberto Martinez, Everton manager (on transfer speculation over Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines):

“It is getting a little bit too much at the moment. I think it’s not just here, up and down the league in every dressing room you get these sort of stories and I think we need to do something. I think we need to protect the league, we need to protect the players – it’s very, very unfair for the players. I think we need to be respectful to the fans. We need to try to stop all this transfer window business when the games are going on.”

Roberto Martinez, Everton manager (on whether Leighton Baines has asked to leave the club):

“I speak with all the players, as you can imagine, and…. it is disappointing when you get so many stories going around. You’re questioning or you’re wondering where those stories are coming from, but as I say, there’s nothing to comment in those, two cases. We’ll carry on, we’ll carry on waiting until the window shuts.”
