Mexico confident ahead of World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica

Mexico trained and spoke on Monday ahead of their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica in Mexico City on Tuesday.

Jose Manuel de la Torre, Mexico manager:
“There’s no way to get back lost points, that’s the deficit we carried back home. We have to be clear on that uncertain beginning in which we couldn’t win. We have got good results abroad which make it up for us a little bit. But no doubt that winning at home is what sets the path to qualify for a World Cup, so tomorrow we expect to perform a good match and a win would put us in a good position.”

“What matters here are the results, it’s what matters but of course a proper performance gets you closer to getting good results. You might get bad results here and there because they defeated you because of the team. But to win is to win, and that’s what the team is missing: to get the point that allows you to be a bit better. It might get tight because what we’ve discussed is that defining games are getting more competitive and so we must be clear with what’s important – the objective is to get points. It’s useless to play well without getting the points, it’s useless to play well if you don’t end up qualifying.”
