Video: Mohun Bagan draw 0-0 against Railways FC in a friendly
Mohun Bagan played out a goalless draw against Railway FC in a practice match held at Barasat Stadium. Mohun Bagan had the best chances on the day but were unable to breach the Railways defence.
Sanjoy Sen started with Debjit Majumdar between the sticks with a defence of Pritam Kotal, Gustavo Silva Conceicao, Pratik Chaudhary and Sukhen Dey to protect him. Ram Malik, Lalkamal Bhowmick, Souvik Chakraborty, Tirthankar Sarkar and Katsumi Yusa made up the numbers in midfield with Raja Das leading the attack for the Marriners.
Bagan started the brighter of the two sides with Katsumi Yusa initiating a nice move, passing the ball to Raja Das who combined well with Ram Malik who inturn passed the ball back to Lalkamal Bhowmick. The latter’s weak attempt went well wide of the frame of the goal
Sanjoy Sen substituted Katsumi Yusa and Raja Das in the first half itself with Azharuddin Mullick and Kean Lewis replacing the two stars.
Sen changed the entire team in the second half with the exception of Lewis
Ram Malik missed a the best chance of the match when Lalkamal put the ball in the in the striker’s path who instead of going for goal took the keeper out of the game and put the ball into the 6-yard box towards Pankaj Moula but the Railways defender was exceptional in clearing the ball as the score remained level going into the break.
Sanjoy Sen opted to change the entire team with only Kean Lewis being retained from the first half. Mohun Bagan looked more comfortable in the 2nd half, creating many decent goal scoring opportunities. Bhargav, Lewis and Yeboah were the main culprits as Bagan failed to take the chances that came their way.
It could have been even worse for the Kolkata giants as Railways missed a brilliant chance in the dying minutes of the match after Sanjay Balmuchu’s glaring mistake, but the striker fluffed his lines.
Bagan will start their Calcutta Football League campaign against Mohammedan Sporting on the 9th of August in a bid to win their first CFL title since 2009.
