Video: Mourinho and Martinez react to Everton win

Everton manager Roberto Martinez and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho react after Steven Naismith‘s goal gave Everton a 1-0 win in the English Premier League on Saturday (14th September).

(Q: What went wrong tonight?) Jose Mourinho, Chelsea manager, said:”We didn’t score goals. We had chances and chances, we didn’t score. You know people with experience in football me, you, even the spectators, we all know that this happens week after week in football, in football stadiums. You don’t score (then) what you create means nothing and you don’t create, you score a goal, you get three points and you win the game, so I think it’s a simple, simple story.”

(Q: That killer instinct is something you’ve always been associated with, do you think those players have that killer instinct?) Jose Mourinho said: “If they don’t have, they have to get. But I think they have yes. Samuel (Eto’o) was a killer all his career and the situations where he was involved in the game makes me happy, it looks for me good understanding with the team. I think (Eden) Hazard is playing very, very well, very well, the kid is in my opinion having a very good evolution. The kid is showing maturity and ambition and I am very happy with this evolution. So no problem.”

(Q: A famous win, how satisfying is it to get your first Premier League win as Everton manager?)  Roberto Martinez, Everton manager, said: “Difficult to describe because it wasn’t the perfect performance from our point of view, but then when you show that character, all the attributes that a team has to have to be a winning side, forget about the technical side of things or the tactical side of the game. I thought we were a ten (out of ten) in that respect. I though the crowd understood that we are still adapting, we are trying to play in a different manner and that sometimes it can be a little bit difficult when you play a side like Chelsea. But the way we reacted, we gave away two or three chances probably from us not keeping the ball well enough and not having the concepts sharp enough, but the way we reacted, the way we took responsibility, the way we defended was immense.”
