Video: Premier League highlights - Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool win, Man Utd lose
As the festive period comes to an end with the New Year fixtures, here is a look at the biggest winners and losers of Gameweek 20.
Manchester United 1 – 2 Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur beat the mighty champions in their own backyard with a stellar display. Goals from rejuvenated Emmanuel Adebayor and Cristian Eriksen were enough to see the Spurs through, despite a late surge by the Red Devils, as Danny Welbeck pulled one back. Ashley Young was denied a penalty late into the game in controversial circumstances. Manchester United drop to 7th, while Tottenham go up to 6th.
The visitors proved their credentials for the title yet again, as they won against Swansea in difficult playing conditions. Yaya Toure got on the score sheet yet again, along with fellow midfielder Fernandinho and Aleksander Kolarov. Although Wilfried Bony bagged a brace, it proved to be scant consolation. Manchester City keep the pressure up on Arsenal in second, while Swansea fall to 13th.
A much changed Liverpool side cruised to victory against in form Hull City. Daniel Agger scored his first of the season to put the Reds in front, and a second half free kick by Luis Suarez doubled the lead. Liverpool move into the top 4 spot with the win in fourth, while Hull are placed comfortably in 10th.
Arsenal limped past a resolute Cardiff side which put up a brave fight. Second half substitute Niklas Bendtner came to the rescue for the Gunners as he tapped in a goal from 5 yards in the dying minutes of the game. Theo Walcott soon got the second to gain the vital three points to stay at the top of the table. Manager-less Cardiff are in free fall, in 17th place.
Chelsea eased past an impressive Southampton side at the St Mary’s. Fernando Torres scored the opener which was the first away goal scored by a striker for the Blues in over a year. Second half substitutes Willian and Oscar scored the second and third goal to give the visitors all three points. Chelsea stay in third, 2 points off leaders Arsenal, while Southampton drop to 9th after an impressive start to the season.
