Video: Sigthorsson double gives Ajax 2-1 win over Feyenoord

Two goals from Kolbeinn Sigthorsson earned Ajax three points on Sunday – and condemned visiting Feyenoord to their third defeat in three games of the new Eredivisie campaign.

Some fabulous artwork on display in the stands of the Amsterdam Arena – but the aesthetic was of little interest to Feyenoord as they went in search of victory against Ajax – and their first points of the 2013-14 season.

Ronald Koeman’s men started positively after that horrible display of ill-discipline and the 4-1 mauling at home to Twente last week.

Graziano Pelle gave them a sixth-minute lead.

Viktor Fischer charging at the Feyenoord defence was fouled in the area by Ruud Vormer and the referee pointed to the spot immediately.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson stepped up for Ajax and thundered it home to level things at 1-1 in the 31st minute.

Beaten 3-2 at AZ, Ajax too needed a swift return to winning ways.

Sigthorsson doubled his personal tally and put the hosts ahead in the 37th minute.

After some quick feet out on the right flank, Sigthorsson’s powerful header flew past Erwin Mulder, off the bar and in.

2-1 was the way it finished – smiles for Frank de Boer but more pressure heaped on Koeman.
