Video: South Korea and Iran qualify for World Cup finals

Both Iran and South Korea advance to 2014 World Cup finals after Iran grab 1-0 win in Ulsan.

Both Iran and South Korea advanced to 2014 World Cup finals, after Iran grabbed a 1-0 away victory in Ulsan.

A war of words between South Korean boss Choi Kang-hee and Iran manager Carlos Quieroz, had been filling the column inches in the build up to the game.

Son Heung-min had the best of the early opportunities for South Korea, but his effort bounced up off the turf and over the crossbar.

But the winning goal came on the hour mark after some sloppy Korean defending allowed Reza Goochannejhad, to run clear and apply a neat finish, causing wild celebrations on the Iranian bench.

South Korea couldn’t find an equalliser despite an astonishing goalmouth scramble and the game finished 1-0.

Iran win Group A with 16 points, but South Korea still advance to the World Cup finals on goal difference – leaving both sets of supporters to dream of Brazil next summer.
