Video: Southampton's Victor Wanyama scores 40-yard stunner against Hull City
Southampton got a crucial 1-0 win away at Hull City thanks to Victor Wanyama’s wonder strike in the third minute of the game.
The result ensured that the Saints will remain in second place at the end of the weekend’s action.
The goal came from a botched clearance by Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who is the club’s third choice keeper. The ball reached Wanyama in the centre of the pitch and he let fly a curling strike that hit the back of the net.
Wanyama said: “I saw the goalkeeper out of the goal and I thought this is a good chance to finish first time. I had good contact.”
"I will say it is the best goal I’ve ever scored. I’ve never scored from that far.”
He has now scored three goals in his last six Premier League games. He had not scored in his last 26 games.
