Video: Roma earn hard-fought 2-1 victory over Juventus

Goals from Miralem Pjanic and Edin Dzeko sealed a win for Roma over defending Italian champions Juventus. Paolo Dybala was able to pull one back for the visitors but some resolute defending and a superb save from goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on loan from Arsenal.

The reigning Italian champions have played 2 league games now since the season has begun and lost both these games contributing to a dismal start to their 2015/16 campaign. Massimiliano Allegri’s team were reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute when Patrice Evra was given marching orders for accumulating 2 yellow cards.

Pjanic opened the scoring from a well-placed freekick after having earlier hit the post with a cracking shot from open play. The former Manchester City striker Dzeko would find himself at the end of a lobbed cross that he did well to guide past Gianluigi Buffon from close range while under pressure from a defender.

It would be a crucial goal as the Argentine Dybala was about to find the net for the Old Lady to reduce their deficit. The former Palermo striker was played through on goal and had the presence of mind to chip it over the Polish keeper who had already rushed out and gone to ground.

The on-loan Arsenal keeper would be a hero at the end of the night, though, making a great save in injury time to deny Giorgio Chiellini an equaliser.

The Italian champions look in deep trouble having failed to conjure anything from their first 2 games while the likes of Inter Milan have won both their games so far giving them a 6-point headstart. Juve have let go of star players like Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal in the summer made a few good signings but none have begun to click for them so far. The 2015 Champions League finalists need to spark their campaign immediately to have any sort of chance for a shot at their 5th consecutive title.
