Video: USA prepare for Honduras World Cup qualifier
The United States were adapting to the altitude in Salt Lake City and each other on Saturday while preparing for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Honduras.
The U.S. faced Honduras in the first game of the group and lost 2-1, but they have been piling up the points ever since.
The Americans are unbeaten in their last four matches with three wins and a draw, keeping three clean sheets while conceding only one goal, and are looking to keep that fine form going against Honduras.
“I know a lot of the guys, you know – including myself – we had that mindset coming in that ‘take nine points here, put ourselves in the driver’s seat of the group’ and we hope that come Tuesday night we can do that.”
“They beat us away and I thought, you know, it probably wasn’t warranted – we didn’t play the best of games but still I thought we did enough to at least get a point so hopefully come Tuesday night we can take all three.”
“We could easily kind of rest and take it easy because we got six points and hopefully we’ll get nine but that’s not how you get another three points, hopefully, you have to work for it and I think at our core we’re competitors, you know? And I think when you roll a ball out there and say, ‘alright, we’re going to keep score now,’ guys want to win. When it’s a passing drill or maybe something else, not always but when you line guys up and tell them to compete against each other because there’ a winner an the loser, this team’s going to compete.”
The US won both of the games they previously played in Utah, with both matches coming in World Cup qualifying.
