Video: Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue's priceless reaction when asked if he would join Chelsea
Chelsea managed a 2-2 draw against high-flying Watford in what was interim manager Guus Hiddink’s first match in charge. Out-of-form striker Diego Costa suddenly burst into life and scored a brace with a goal on either side of half-time, and usual suspects Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo scored for the Hornets, while Oscar missed a late penalty to guarantee the Blues all the three points.
Etienne Capoue, who was bought from Tottenham Hotspurs for a club-record transfer fee of £6.3 million this summer will face his former club for the first time. He has had a great season so far with the newly promoted club and has started for them in every Premier League match thus far.
After the clash at Stamford Bridge, the French midfielder was asked by an enthusiastic Chelsea fan if he is open to a move to the defending champions, to which he gave a rather lackadaisical response and walked off. The 27-year-old spent two seasons with Spurs, but his time at the White Hart Lane did not bear fruit and he has already made more appearances for Watford this term than he managed in a single season with Spurs.
One reason that the former Toulouse player completely overlooked the idea of joining Chelsea might be his time spent with Chelsea’s local rivals (Spurs) and the other reason might be the current positions of both the clubs on the league table. While Watford have defied all odds to claim the seventh position after 18 game weeks, the defending champions have amassed 10 points less than their newly promoted counterparts and currently occupy 15th place in the table.
Here’s the tweet from the Chelsea fan which shows Capoue’s priceless reaction to the question from the Blues fan.
