Video: Wayne Rooney's son wants a shirt with Jamie Vardy on the back

Wayne Rooney speaking on ITV

Wayne Rooney is currently out injured and didn’t feature for England in their last two matches. His competitors, on the other hand, have taken advantage of his absence to claim a starting berth for EURO 2016.

One of those competitors has been Jamie Vardy. The Leicester City striker has been in fine form this season and received his first national call-up from Roy Hodgson in 2015. The striker has grasped his chance by scoring two exquisite goals in both of England's friendlies over the last two weeks.

The forward has won many plaudits from fans and critics alike and is now being touted for a place in England's starting XI at EURO 2016. He has been so impressive that Wayne Rooney’s own son has asked for a T-shirt from his dad with Vardy’s name written on the back!

Speaking as a pundit on ITV during the England game he said,”My lad has asked me to get him and England kit with Vardy on the back!” It must have been hard for the Englishman to take that on the chin but he seemed in good spirits on the show.

Rooney suffered a knee injury in the  middle of February which has ruled him until sometime in April. But Harry Kane and Vardy have done magnificently for the national side in his place and now it looks like the Manchester United forward will have to fight for his place in the team.

But Rooney is excited by the challenge and is ready to face competition for places in the squad saying, “Obviously, the decision is down to Roy Hodgson, but I want to be there, involved and trying to help and hopefully leading the team to success.”
