Video:Costa Rica move top in CONCACAF group
The top two teams in the Concacaf qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup met on Friday, when Costa Rica hosted the USA in San Jose.
Jurgen Klinsmann’s men were looking to extend an impressive 12 game winning streak
But it was Costa Rica who made the perfect start at the Estadio Nacional as Johnny Acosta rose highest to make it 1-0 inside 2 minutes.
And things got even better for the Ticos when Celso Borges doubled their lead after just 8 minutes.
The USA improved as the game went on and were given a chance to get back into the match when Keylor Navas fouled Fabian Johnson in the box.
Clint Dempsey did just enough to convert the spot kick, making the scoreline 2-1 at half time.
The USA dominated for the majority of the second half but were dealt a hammer blow in the 76th minutes.
Joel Campbell showed plenty of strength to hold off the American defenders and latch on to Jose Cubero’s long ball
He finished well to make it 3-1.
The result means Costa Rica move top of the group while the USA sit second as they prepare to host an out of form Mexico in Ohio on Tuesday.
