Villas-Boas’ latest swipe at Chelsea is more funny than serious
Ever since Chelsea ‘hijacked’ Willian from the noses of Tottenham, Villas-Boas has been trying to get one over us with varied results. Of course, the recent bad blood between the clubs can be traced over several incidents like Luka Modric’s proposed move to Chelsea, former Chelsea manager Villas-Boas taking over at Spurs, and so on.
The Willian transfer has only escalated things in recent months. Villas-Boas recently said before the 1-1 draw that he no longer considers Mourinho as his friend. According to Sky Sports, Villas-Boas has said that Spurs consider themselves as a big club and that they will not be a stepping stone to anybody.
He said, “Obviously the comments are completely disproportionate and out of reality. I have spoken to the player, told the player to speak to the agent and we have acted accordingly. “We consider ourselves a big club. We’re not a stepping stone to anybody.”
Mr. Villas-Boas, Tottenham sold the likes of Luka Modric, Michael Carrick, and Dimitar Berbatov to ‘big clubs’ by acting as a stepping stone. In case, you did not know the history, Gareth Bale would probably provide a better example. Tottenham have been sort of a ‘feeder club’ in the last decade. Period.
His latest comments come after their defender Vlad Chiriches’ agent suggested that Chelsea will try to sign his client in the next two years if he performs well in England. According to the Metro, Victor Becali said, “If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches. Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid.”
It should also be noted that Chelsea haven’t spoken a word about the player, but Villas-Boas is constantly trying to put Tottenham ahead. Vlad Chiriches was an £8.3 million signing from our Champions League opponents Steaua Bucharest. He has so far found first-team opportunities limited at White Hart Lane. He did play in the 2-0 win over Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday. At this point, ‘Chiriches to Chelsea’ rumour is least worrying. It would be great if Villas-Boas acted mature rather than moan along like a dumpee.
