Villas-Boas: Spurs have an 'immense' amount of talent

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has said the reason behind Emmanuel Adebayor’s lack of opportunities is down to the “immense” amount of talent in his squad.

The Togolese striker has been left out of the first-team squad this season and is yet to make a competitive appearance.

Speculation about his future was rife with rumours that Spurs were trying to sell the former Arsenal forward after he was made to train with the reserves.

However, with no sale over the summer, Adebayor was forced to fight for his place and, so far, he’s not winning it back.

The Portuguese has insisted that Adebayor has always been in contention for a place in his team so could make his first appearance of the season in Moldova against FC Sheriff.

Villas-Boas said: “There is a chance that he could be involved (against Sheriff), but I’m not sure if he’s starting or not.

“The difference from last year, I think, is the competition is higher. Last season we wouldn’t rotate as much for this competition [Europa League] as we have so far. This is done because of the immense talent we have at our disposal.

“We can make six or seven changes now, which keeps the players fresh and motivated.”
