Vine Goal of the Week: Chelsea's Oscar scores with a free kick against Stoke City
Oscar celebrates his goal
Jose Mourinho’s decision to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United may have been met with disapproval from some corners of Stamford Bridge, but Oscar’s outstanding free-kick in the 1-0 FA Cup fourth round victory over Stoke City went some way to vindicate the Portuguese’s decision.
The 22 year-old youngster has been pinpointed by Mourinho as the man to fulfil a central attacking midfield role for The West Londoners, which paved the way for Mata’s departure.
Although The Blues dominated the tie in a one sided affair, Mourinho’s men struggled to make their ascendency count until Oscar’s 25 yard strike just before the half hour mark.
Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was distracted by David Luiz’s decoy run and took a small step to his left before being left powerless to prevent Oscar’s delicious curling effort that glided over the wall and into the top corner.
Although they carved out plenty of opportunities, Chelsea faced a few nervy moments in the closing stages. But eventually Oscar’s fine strike was enough to secure a mouth watering fifth round clash with last season’s finalists Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Oscar has scored six Premier League goals this season, two of the six goals have been scored from outside the box.
