Virat Kohli and Sunil Chettri wish each other on Twitter

There is a lot of mutual respect between Kohli and Chhetri

India test cricket captain Virat Kohli showed his love for Indian football when he tweeted in support of Bengaluru FC and Sunil Chhetri. Bengaluru FC created history by becoming the first Indian team to make it to the AFC Cup final with Sunil Chettri playing a starring role (scored a brace) in his side’s 3-1 victory over Malaysian side Johor Darul Ta’zim.

India’s star batsman is an avid follower of football and even partly owns the Indian Super League side FC Goa. On the day of the BFC match, October 19th Virat Kohli tweeted saying:

Bengaluru FC made Kohli and the entire country proud when they came back from a goal down to beat the defending champions 3-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate. The Indian side’s new manager Alberto Roca was effusive in his praise for Chhetri:

“I knew that Sunil could play in every position, his commitment to the cause from the first day. Hence, I told him, that he could play on the left today, come inside when he needed and scored. That worked today for us, obviously, he could have scored as a striker as well, but when I told him, he said ‘sure’ and was ready to play there.”

“This is why he is an example, there were no doubts or any arguments. He said he’ll do his best in that position, he did and he scored.” he continued.

Chettri who cemented his place in Indian football history with the brace took time out to thank Kohli for his kind gesture in a tweet of his own:

India lost a thrilling encounter to New Zealand in the second ODI narrowly losing by 6 runs. Kohli himself had a poor outing in the second ODI, but he will be itching to go out and put in a match-winning performance again in the third ODI.

Both Chhetri and Kohli are arguably the best in the country at their respective sports and it is nice to see so much mutual respect between the top sportsmen of India.
