Watch: Kieran Trippier's nightmare penalty in Tottenham's FA Cup loss to Crystal Palace
What's the story?
Tottenham Hotspur lost to Crystal Palace in the 4th round of the FA Cup, thereby leaving them with slim chances of winning a trophy this season. They were knocked out by Chelsea in the EFL cup earlier this week. Thus, they have endured a horrid week.
In the game against Crystal Palace, Spurs right-back Kieran Trippier was given a chance to score a goal for his team from the penalty spot. However, the Englishman failed to convert the opportunity and the penalty attempt was a massive failure.
The Background
Tottenham Hotspur were heavily affected by injuries which did not allow them to start with a strong squad for the FA Cup 4th round tie against Crystal Palace. Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen were a few absentees and the team from North London was rocked early in the match with a Crystal Palace goal scored by Connor Wickham in the 9th minute of the match. Palace scored another goal in the 33rd minute which put Spurs' hopes on the backfoot.
However, they got a penalty in the 44th minute for an unfair challenge on Juan Foyth. England international Kieran Trippier came to take the penalty in the absence of Harry Kane, and he made a mess of it.
The Details
Kieran Tripper came to take the penalty which could have given Spurs hope of a comeback in the second half. However, the right-back sent the ball wide towards the right-hand side of the goal and thus ended up as a missed opportunity.
Trippier's expression after his attempt said it all, as he was highly disappointed with his effort. Eventually, Spurs were not able to make a comeback, and Crystal Palace got a great win.
