We have nothing to prove, says David Luiz

David Luiz has jumped to the defence of squad selection

David Luiz has spoken in defence of Jose Mourinho’s team selections for the Fulham and Swindon games and has re-iterated that no one has anything to prove at Chelsea, but to want to play and be willing to work hard.

He said: “We don’t have to prove anything. We just have to show that we want to play. Everyone had an opportunity to play and show our football and that’s it.”

“This is a big club and we have many, many good players. If Chelsea just had 11 players we could win nothing.”

“How do you know how he picked the team? It was just one game.”

“Sometimes when other players go out of the team, you don’t say anything.”

“I don’t need to prove anything. Everyone knows who is David Luiz, I want to play football and enjoy myself on the pitch so when I have an opportunity to play, I want to enjoy. Just that, I am just one player in the team.”

“Sometimes the manager can put me in, sometimes not. It’s his choice.”

It seems as though Luiz has accepted the methods of the manager and the fact that he will not be playing in every game.

If anything and in my opinion, Gary Cahill has been our best defender closely followed by Ivanovic, if we are to judge on overall performances from the start of the season.

Luiz is still a class act and someone of that quality has to be pushing for a start in every single game for Chelsea, but whether that is at the back or pushed forward in midfield is up for debate.

For now, he is happy with his place in the squad and to put in the hard work to force himself back into Mourinho’s plans.
